Marriage and Weddings - American Culture

Family Tradition

The United States is "a melting pot" of cultures each with their own unique Marriage Customs and Traditions. There has been a set of Customs and Traditions generally accepted as common to Marriage in The United States unless the marriage is a Common Law Marriage.

Dating is the accepted pre-engagement practice between couples. Families generally establish requirements for the details of acceptable activities, time of day, single or group dating etc. The age, personality and maturity of dating children generally drive the conditions set by parents if the children are still at home.

Love between the couples is believed to be a prerequisite to marriage.

Proposal of marriage by the man and acceptance by the woman results in an Engagement. Couples enter into marriage with the belief that the relationship is permanent. The engagement is marked by the gift of an Engagement Ring from the man proposing to the woman accepting.

A Marriage License is required by all States including a Blood Test and a prescribed waiting period.

A Wedding Rehearsal Dinner is usually celebrated between the immediate families of spouses in the late afternoon the day before the wedding. The Groom's Family traditionally provides for this celebration.

A Bachelor Party is held for the Groom and usually sponsored by The Best Man the night before the Wedding.

A Bridal Shower is usually sponsored by The Bride's Maid. It has become very popular now for The Bride's Maid to also sponsor a Bachelorette Party for the Bride.

The Wedding Ceremony is most often performed as part of a religious ceremony each with its own specific customs and traditions. On the day of the wedding the Groom does not see the Bride until the actual ceremony. As Custom would have it from Victorian Times: the Bride wears Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and a Sixpence in her shoe.

Rings are exchanged to mark the permanent commitment of the new spouses to each other.

A Wedding Reception is usually held after the ceremony for all family and friends to celebrate. The Bride's Family usually provides for this celebration.

A Honeymoon is taken by the Bride and Groom to a secret place where they go off for their first night together in Marriage. It is thought that the Honeymoon Custom was established to avoid the European Custom Charivari where family and friends banged on pots and pans outside the couple's bedroom their first night of marriage.

Los duques de Cambridge inician su luna de miel en las islas Seychelles

Desde el Palacio de Saint James han confirmado que Guillermo y Catherine “se han ido” pero no han querido precisar el destino exacto de su viaje

Las últimas compras de Catherine Middleton como soltera revelaban que el destino de su luna de miel iba a ser un lugar caluroso y con playa

Como ya informó Clarence House, los duques de Cambrige decidieron posponer su luna de miel y disfrutar de un tranquilo fin de semana en el Reino Unido después de su enlace. También aseguraron que el destino no iba a ser revelado con antelación y que dicho retraso se debía a los compromisos laborales del príncipe Guillermo como piloto de helicóptero de salvamento y rescate de la RAF en la base de Anglesey, la isla situada en el norte de de Gales donde ya tienen la residencia en la que inciarán su vida de recién casados.

Hoy, diez días después de su boda, Guillermo y Catherine han iniciado su luna de miel en las islasSeychelles, según publican varios medios británicos como The Telegraph y Daily Mail. El palacio de Saint James ha confirmado la noticia pero no ha ofrecido más datos al respecto: “Lo único que vamos a confirmar es que los duques de Cambridge se han ido. Han pedido que se respete su privacidad durante su luna de miel” y ha añadido que el príncipe Guillermo se ha tomado dos semanas de permiso en la RAF.

Al parecer, los recién casados llegaron a este paraíso natural, compuesto por más de 115 islas ubicadas en el océano Índico, al noreste de Madagascar, esta mañana. A bordo de un avión privado, aterrizaron en una de las islas más bonitas y románticas de las Seychelles donde tienen previsto permanecer diez días. Hay que recordar, que Guillermo y Catherine ya disfrutaron allí de unas románticas vacaciones tras su ruptura en el año 2007. Entonces, alquilaron la remota isla Desroches, un paraíso ubicado a 230 kilómetros al suroeste de Mahé, la principal isla de Seychelles. Hace tres años, el alquiler del lujoso complejo costaba a la semana más de siete mil euros. Sí en esta ocasión han vuelto a repetir destino, los duques de Cambridge gozarán durante su estancia de un clima cálido (24º C- 32º C), playas de arena blanca, aguas transparentes perfectas para bucear y un lujoso aislamiento.

Esta noticia viene a confirmar lo que días antes de la boda real publicó la revista ¡HOLA! Las últimas compras de Catherine Middleton como soltera revelaban que el destino de su luna de miel iba a ser un lugar caluroso y con playa. Durante su paseo por la conocida calle King´s Road de la capital inglesa adquirió, además de dos pantalones, una camiseta de color amarillo y una blusa en la tienda de la marca Whistles, unas gafas de sol de la conocida firma Marc Jacobs ycuatro biquinis en la tienda Goldenpoint.

Cuando finalice su luna de miel, los duques de Cambridge emprenderán un tour por Canadá en julio y visitarán California el 8 y el 10 del mismo mes. Y, aunque no ha sido confirmado por ningún portavoz del Palacio de Saint James, el príncipe Guillermo y Catherine tendrán que separarse en septiembre ya que el futuro soberano de los ingleses ha sido destinado a las islas Malvinas para trabajar en la unidad de búsqueda y rescate de la Real Fuerza Aérea (RAF) durante cuatro meses.

Founding

The first Starbucks was opened in Seattle, Washington, on March 30, 1971 by three partners: English teacher Jerry Baldwin, history teacher Zev Siegl, and writer Gordon Bowker. The three were inspired by entrepreneur Alfred Peet (whom they knew personally) to sell high-quality coffee beans and equipment. The name is taken from Moby-Dick; after Pequod was rejected by one of the co-founders, the company was named for the first mate on thePequod, Starbuck.

From 1971–1975, the first Starbucks was at 2000 Western Avenue; it then was relocated to 1912 Pike Place, where it remains to this day. During their first year of operation, they purchased green coffee beans from Peet's, then began buying directly from growers.
